Our friendly guides enrich your trip by sharing the river’s stories and empowering you with paddling and river navigating skills.
Exciting rapids and a rich history make the river great to explore with a guide, both for people with little or no paddling experience and anyone interested in natural history, wildlife identification, and historical perspective. As your guide demonstrates and coaches paddling skills, you will learn how to read whitewater and maneuver your boat. Guides are intimately familiar with the river and its stories and wild inhabitants, so expect to come away with a richer appreciation of Virginia’s amazing natural and historic resources! Minimum age is 6.

We can also create custom guided trips for you. Guided trips include equipment, skills instruction, and shuttle services. Call 434-218-2052 or email [email protected] to book a custom guided trips. With plenty of notice, a guide can generally be added to any of our regular river trips. Please make your request as early as possible due to limited availability of our top-notch guiding team. Adding a guide to your trip adds an additional $200 to the cost of our regular trips for trips of 1 to 6 people. For over 6 people, we recommend an assistant guide bringing the additional cost to $350.
